ABOUT US
Cristina Cernei is a designer based in Bucharest – Romania. Her designs range from casual to extravagant pieces. On a surface level in her work she explores how one can manipulate shapes and decorations while still graciously fitting the wearer’s body. On a deeper level her work finds itself at the intersection of garment technology and playful experimentation – one of the results of these investigations is pieces which find themselves esthetically and practically multi-functional, supporting various hidden pockets, choice folds, or modular structures.
In 1986 Cristina finishes her BA in Economics at the Economic Studies Academy of Bucharest, in 1998 she decides to leave the financial sector in order to follow her passion for garment design and technology. At first she starts with small experiments which eventually turn into a small shop on a side street in Bucharest.
In 2002 she opens her first atelier in the First Sector of Bucharest and soon after a shop on Calea Victoriei in Bucharest. Since then Cristina has participated and contributed to several fairs and events in Romania. In 2010 she participates at London Margin fair, in 2011 at London Fashion Week. Currently she is working on a new collection and on opening a new exclusive fashion location in Bucharest.
